holding on with one hand

I was driving into town today and was completely mesmerized by the couple riding a motorcycle in front of me. The only part of the man I could see was his arms, strong muscular arms dark from years in the sun. The lady on the back of the bike was perched in an ever so carefree manner, holding her bottle water in one hand and holding onto her partner with the other. Not in a death grip, I'm hanging on for dear life. But a light almost tender hold. I watched as she pointed for him to take a bypass and his response was a pat to her leg. I felt almost guilty witnessing the obviously tender exchange. Then I was reminded that God desires our relationship to be just like that. Poverbs 3:5 tells us to trust in the lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. In all ways remember him. Then he will make your paths smooth and straight. Just as the carefree lady perched on her seat, enjoying life as the light shone on her and the wind blew through her hair, she ever so lightly looked to her guide for safety and direction. I have to question do I have the same carfree approach to my guide and savior as I perch on the wildest ride of my life. When I look at the bypasses in my life do I recognize the gently pat of my Counselor approving my choice or do I wander aimlessly down the highway to Hell hoping it is the right path? What about you? Is it time we climb onto the back of the bike, place our hand gently on our guide and trust he will lead us?
